Student volunteers and staff from the Health and Wellness Center recently joined forces to plant a native garden in the courtyard behind the building. Led by Big Red Farm Operations Manager Ben Bois, the team planted a variety of plants known for their medicinal properties, such as St. John's Wort, echinacea, wild bergamot, and calendula. Ultimately, Bois will work with the students to dry the leaves and create Big Red Farm teas. The garden is an outgrowth of the work English teacher and Sustainability Council co-advisor Sujin Seo has done with Medical Director Dr. Chris Renjilian and sustainability council students on ways to green Health Center practices.
“At Lawrenceville, we know that the health of our minds and bodies is closely tied to the health of our community and our environment. Bringing students, faculty and staff together to plant and cultivate the garden at the Health and Wellness center is not just a symbolic event -- it is a small but significant act through which we participate in protecting health, promoting wellbeing and healing our world together,” said Renjilian.
